FIBER ART EXHIBITION AT THE KLAMATH ART ASSOCIATION IN AUGUST 2006:

These pieces were all done in 2006. Some were printed at the Philadelphia
University Digital Printing facility from images that I created in
Photoshop -- mostly from my own photos, but some were from my family album,
and in the "Self-Portrait" piece, some were from photo machine photos or
pictures my father took of me. Many were done on my Epson printer at home,
and transferred piece by piece onto the fabric. Because the Epson inks are
pigment-based, the transfers can be washed and are relatively light-fast too.

SELF-PORTRAIT 2006

An inkjet transfer print onto cotton, 18 inches by 18 inches

FAMILY ALBUM, TIJUANA, 1928

This was printed with pigment inks on cotton on a large-scale inkjet print, and then painted at the top and bottom. That's all it says on the back, "Tijuana 1928," but I'm pretty sure that my uncle Homer is in the picture and my aunt Esther took it. It's about 30 inches by 20 inches.

SELF PORTRAIT

photo transfers from various photos of myself,
many of which I took as well, some of which
are from my childhood. These are inkjet
transfers from my Epson printer on a piece
of a damask tablecloth. It is about
2 1/2 feet square.

SELF PORTRAIT, DETAIL

In this close-up, you can see a little of the
flowery woven pattern in the fabric,
which you see only from some angles as
you look at the work.

FAMILY ALBUM, RENE AND HER FRIEND

A disperse dye print transferred to polyester satin, with Jacquard Fabric paint rolled on around the edges. The final size is 5 feet by 3 1/2 feet. Rene is my grandmother, and the picture
was taken in the mid-1920s.

JC

This was done with a central image of disperse dye on sheer polyester, set with a heat press, the background painted with Inko dye, and inkjet transfer images across the bottom. It is mounted around a deep frame, with a dark fabric background about 4 inches in back of the central image, so that when you walk by, the glittery designs on the background seem to move behind him. (The head has a backing, so that you don't see the shiny patterns through his head.)

DETAILS OF SILK PIECE

Detail of inkjet transfer on silk. The image was a scan of a sunflower and there are some areas painted with dye. 10" x 8".
